Lanark Memorial Hall set for more delays

It looks like Lanark’s Remembrance ceremony will be held OUTSIDE the Memorial Hall again next year, after the building work hit a snag.

The Memo – built in the aftermath of the First World War as Lanark’s War Memorial – has been closed since 2008.

Refurbishment work by Mansell Construction Services began in March this year, and progress initially went well.

The Memo, being refurbished in a £5.3 million contract, with new building taking place on the site of the old Cargill Club at the side, was due to reopen in summer 2012.

But now it has been revealed that the work will take longer.

For the last four years the annual Service of Remembrance has taken place outside in the street, with those laying wreaths then allowed into the small chapel in the entrance hall.
