South Lanarkshire Council, which planned to close all its public toilets as part of its budget cutbacks, has granted them a reprieve.

Now local councillors are hoping that a public spirited business will take them over.

Councillor Catherine McClymont hopes the adjacent supermarket Morrisons will be interested.

She told the Gazette this week that she and Councillor Ed Archer had managed to convince the council to wait a while, rather than closing the toilets at the end of March –allowing someone else to consider taking them over.

“We have managed to get a reprieve for three months, which keeps them open over Lanimers,” said Catherine.

“I asked the community council to write to Morrisons because it would be in its interest to take the toilets on.”
