When Lanark Rotary Club pledged itself last year to target the town’s Cargill Club for special help from its various fundraising activities, it was as good as its word.

The end result of all that effort came when Rotary president Bill Stewart went along to the Cargill’s new clubhouse in the refurbished Memorial Hall to hand over a cheque for £6000.

While the District Chairman of the Rotary Foundation Harry Smith looked on, Kevan Carty accepted the cheque on behalf of the Cargill members.

Kevan was wearing two hats that day, being both a chief organiser of the Cargill’s activities and a Lanark Rotarian.

He said: ”There have been occasions in my 28 years with Rotary that I have felt proud of this wonderful organisation – but never more so than today.”
