Lanark Round Tablers conquer Ben Nevis

A GROUP of Lanark Round Table members reached their physical peak — climbing Ben Nevis for charity.

The nine men reached the summit of Britain's highest peak last Saturday to raise money for the Stanmore House senior school's annual adventure trip.

After giving money to the school for two years, members decided to do something extra this year.

Scott Warren was one of those taking part.

He said: "I was part of the team who got to the top first in around two hours 40 minutes — the rest were spread about 40 minutes apart.

"On the whole it was clear apart from the first two minutes when there was a downpour and we had to get into our waterproofs.

"And there was a blizzard with about one hour to go which was a nightmare."

But the drive to raise money for the pupils spurred the Tablers on.

Joining Scott were Hugh Black, Graeme Glen, Scot Barr, Iain Wilson, Alistair Brooks, John Mills, Murray Brown and Alan Kerr — none of whom was an experienced hillwalker.
