Lanark’s Clyde Walkway ‘has become dangerous’

Despite hundreds of thousands of pounds in public money being lavished on it in the past 20 years, the local stretch of the Clyde Walkway has become hazardous due to the clifftop pathway fencing being vandalised, leaving near-unprotected sheer drops hundreds of feet to the riverbed below.

And this news comes as the route is being considered as the focus of a major tourism campaign to encourage more New Lanark tourists to include Lanark during their visits – by parking at Castlebank Park and using the Walkway to the village.

The Gazette was first alerted to the problem by several different readers, asking if we knew if there had been a spate of suicides on the walkway as there was police tape covering parts of the clifftop fencing.
