Lanark’s new cinema is a must for family fun

IF you’re a cinema fan, you DON’T have to go all the way to Hamilton or Glasgow for your film fix.

That’s because, for the first time since the Regal Cinema closed in the Seventies, Lanark has its own filmhouse again in the form of the Clearspace Cinema in the town’s Greyfriars Church.

As reported in the Gazette, the minister, the Rev Bryan Kerr, managed to win a grant for film projecting equipment and a screen with an eye to showing family films, especially during the holidays.

He said that a lot of families in the area were currently struggling financially and a trip to the cinema in a big town or city cost too much.

However, with the Clearspace Cinema, he’d brought film entertainment right back to our doorstep and the experimental run of films during the Easter holidays saw packed houses.

Now that success will hopefully be repeated with a new programme of films.
