Lanarkshire smoking deaths higher than Scottish average
Smoking-related deaths in the NHS Lanarkshire area are higher than the Scottish average.
And local politician Michael McCann is hoping these dire statistics and other highly disappointing smoking-related figures will force the Government to introduce standardised packaging for all tobacco products.
The MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow said: “The percentage of deaths attributed to smoking in this area is 24.5%, while for the rest of Scotland it is 23.6%.
