Lanarkshire’s Police Commander Nelson Telfer moves up

LANARKSHIRE’S top policeman, Chief Superintendent Nelson Telfer, is leaving his role to take up a new position within Police Scotland.

Carluke-born Nelson has been given a temporary promotion to Assistant Chief Constable with responsibility for local policing in the West of Scotland.

He took over as Divisional Commander for North Lanarkshire in February 2012 before becoming Lanarkshire’s top cop when Police Scotland came into being in April 2013.

Nelson said: “For the past three years or so, I have had the absolute privilege of being the Commander of initially North Lanarkshire Division and following the introduction of Police Scotland, the merged Lanarkshire Division.

“I have made many friends through various interactions and can honestly say that my time here has been extremely fulfilling, both professionally and personally.”
