Lane’s £14,000 clearance job

A welcome spruce-up is now complete at a lane in Busby. Hawthorn Lane has been cleared and made more secure thanks to an East Rencouncil housing programme.

Residents have been concerned about anti-social behaviour in the lane.

The £14,000 clear-up job was funded from the council’s mixed tenure scheme, a project that carries out improvements in areas that have a mix of council housing, owner occupied homes and private lets.

Around 12 tonnes of rubbish and weeds were removed. Nearly 180 metres of security fencing has also been installed.

The works were ordered after councillor Alan Lafferty, who represents the area, asked the council if some investment from the mixed tenure scheme was possible.

Councillor Lafferty consulted residents on a range of different type of fencing available at a public meeting before the final attractive green option was chosen.

The mixed tenure scheme is an award-winning, groundbreaking programme to tackle the problems associated with blocks and areas of mixed ownership.

It has seen thousands of people benefit and has invested more than £800,000 in improvements.
