Lanimer Day 2010

THOUSANDS of people descended on Lanark to see the crowning of 2010 Lanimer Queen Carrie Elliot.

In chilly but dry weather conditions, Crowning Lady Marjorie Romer bestowed the crown on Kirkfieldbank Primary pupil Carrie (12).

Marjorie said: "On behalf of the citizens of Lanark near and far, it gives me great pleasure to crown you Carrie, Lanimer Queen 2010."

Huge applause broke out among the watching gala court, including Carrie's proud parents Catriona and Joe.

There was the usual high standard of Lanimer lorries among the 19 entries, with overall winner of the Silver Bell Trophy later named as Affair in Red Square by The Kranal Club.

The entry was the brainchild of 1960 Lanimer Queen Beth Frood.

Kranal Club member Willie McCulloch said: "We're definitely wearing the right gear for what is a fairly cold day at the moment!"

Flying Visit to Lanark, by The Kilninie Club, commemorated the 100th anniversary of the aviation show in Lanark.

Club member Margaret Wilson said: "We're having a fantastic day, which I'm sure will continue. If it rains, we can always fly off!"
