Lanimer Day 2014 almost upon us

This year’s has 25 entries, most crammed with youngsters, and ranging from a vintage fire engine to Robert Owen’s Indian Summer, and The Walkin’ Deid from ICE.

And the bands – a total of nine pipe bands and silver bands will take part in the procession.

And at times they will be competing with the drumbeats from other entries.

The procession sets off from the top of St Leonard Street at 10am on Thursday.

Lanimer Committee Chairman Millar Stoddart is encouraging the public to turn out in force to watch.

“I want to invite them to be part of the atmosphere and to help create the atmosphere on Thursday,” he said.

The massive procession makes its way around the town – down High Street and up Wellgate, then back in by Bannatyne Street and, on reaching the Cross, the children disembark and take their places on the stand for the crowning of this year’s Lanimer Queen, Paige McCulloch, by Mrs Agnes Robb.
