Law kids ''break-in'' to playpark

LAW'S new-look £90,000 playpark was given an unofficial opening at the weekend — when youngsters broke through fencing so they could enjoy trying out the upgraded equipment!

Stunned local man Ian Campbell — playpark campaigners Law Community Trust secretary — was stunned to see children already playing there.

He said: "My wife and I were walking there on Sunday and noticed that kids were playing on the equipment.

"Somebody had pulled the fence down. I don't know how the kids did it. They must have used spanners to loosen bolts on the wire fencing.

"The kids must have been desperate to try out the playpark!

"The Trust received a couple of emails from children saying how pleased they are with it."

Managed by South Lanarkshire Council, the playpark was funded by 38,000 from the Windfarm Renewable Energy Fund, 30,000 from Virador, 17,500 from the council and the remainder from Law Community Trust.

Construction from March 16 onwards by builders L and C followed two years of hard work including public meetings and exhibitions and consultations with the community, especially P6 and P7 Law Primary pupils.

However, Clydesdale West Councillor David Shearer was concerned about children's safety.

He said: "The fences are still up because the contractors are still working on the equipment. I don't want kids getting injured before the park opens.

"The Trust wants to organise an official opening but I do understand why the kids don't want to wait until somebody comes and cuts a ribbon."
