Law offers hope in murder of Carluke’s Surjit Singh Chokkar

FOLLOWING the conviction of the killers of black teenager Stephen Lawrence, there is hope that one local family will finally get justice for another brutal murder almost 15 years ago.

No-one has yet been punished for the violent death of Surjit Singh Chhokar, the 32-year-old who lived and and worked in the Carluke and Law area as a shopkeeper and a waiter and whose relatives are still living locally.

The case sparked controversy after prosecutors failed to secure a conviction for the murder near Mr Chhokar’s then home in Overtown, despite the arrests of three men and two subsequent trials.
