Funding of £400,000 from Historic Scotland, matched by South Lanarkshire Council, has seen several significant improvements made in the village.
Among the beneficiaries are husband and wife Mike and Julia Williams, whose 200-year-old cottage at 90/92 Main Street, Leadhills, has undergone £24,058 in improvement works, two thirds of which was paid for by CARS.

Mike (50), a clinic manager who is originally from Edinburgh, said the CARS scheme had been a great help in covering most of the costs of improvements to the roof, render, window and doors at the property.
“We’d loved living in the house since 2004 but there was a lot of general maintenance work needing done which we couldn’t afford to pay for without help,” he said.
