Leading brass band in charity concert in Springburn

The Co-operative Funeralcare Band will present a wide range of music at a concert in the Springburn Salvation Army hall in Fernbank Street, Springburn on Saturday, May 17.

All proceeds from the concert will go towards the work of The Salvation Army. The band will be conducted by the widely-experienced Allan Ramsay, a former principal cornet player with the band.

Admission to the concert will be £5 and further information can be obtained by calling 0141 558 9488 or 07725585158. The Co-operative Funeralcare Band can trace its roots back to 1918 in the CWS factories in Shieldhall, Glasgow.

It is the most successful band in Scottish competition history having won the Scottish Championship on 32 occasions, the latest triumph being in March 2014.

In 1990 the band achieved its greatest success by becoming the first Scottish band to win the National Championship of Great Britain, a feat repeated in 1996.

The band was runner-up in the European Championship in 1992 and 1997 and has been placed third three times in the British Open Championship.

In May 2010, the newly-named Co-operative Funeralcare Band band won the All-England Masters International Championship for a second time and in 2012, lifted its fourth Scottish Open Championship title.

The band has a diverse and exciting repertoire and, away from competition, regularly gives concerts at community level throughout the country.
