Lend a helping hand at Christmas

Whole Foods Market in Giffnock is encouraging customers to purchase a food parcel that will be given to the city’s homeless.

With the help of its customers, the retailer is aiming to raise over £2,500 to purchase food for the parcels at cost price. The parcels will then be sent to the homeless charity Glasgow City Mission in time for Christmas.

Each food parcel will include pasta, tinned food, tea bags and even a bag of giant chocolate buttons.

Customers can also make a cash donation to the charity which will enable an evening drop-in service to operate five nights a week, plus a programme of more than twenty daytime activities designed to address the root causes of homelessness and poverty.

Graham Steven, marketing and fundraising manager at Glasgow City Mission told The Extra: “We are staggered at the generosity of Whole Foods Market and their customers. In recent months, we have experienced a tenfold rise in requests for emergency food parcels.

“Poverty is really biting: putting food on the table is becoming very difficult if not impossible for some. This loving gift will be of welcome relief for many this Christmas – a time that for many will be a real struggle.”

The Giffnock store’s marketing team leader Emili Fusaro added: “We are commited to helping the commuinity and Glasgow City Mission is a charity which we identified as being important at helping people who are in a difficult situation at this time of year.”
