A DEDICATED mum-of-two has been named ‘Volunteer of the Year’ in recognition of her work with a popular sports club.

Shona MacDonald (40), from Lenzie, was nominated for the prestigious East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust award by Lenzie Woodhead Gymnastics Club, where she is club development officer.

Shona joined the club, where her eldest daughter Eilish is a member, in 2011 and said she was “shocked” by the accolade.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Shona won the award for the immense effort, experience and enthusiasm she brings to the club.

“In addition to her role as club development officer, she is training to be a qualified Level 1 women’s artistic coach and a qualified judge.

“She gives up many hours of her own time and is an incredibly important and valued member of the team.”
