Lenzie Public Hall management under fire for price hikes and locked carpark

A company who last year took over the management of an under-threat community hall has been slammed by residents for how it is running the facility.

XS Lenzie Hall Ltd took over the management of the hall in late 2012 from cash-strapped East Dunbartonshire Council.

But XS, who rent the hall out to a number of organisations, including sister organisation XS Taekwon-do, has been accused of heavy-handed tactics and profiteering by local residents.

One nearby resident explained: “It is well known in the village that the local toddlers group, that used the hall for over 20 years, has moved out due to rising costs of renting the facility.

“In a further move to alienate the Lenzie locals they have decided to block access to Cedar Nursery, by not allowing parents to use the car park at the rear of the hall to drop off and pick-up.”

A council spokesperson said negotiations were in progress to remedy the problem.

However, a spokesperson for XS was unapologetic, saying: “XS Lenzie Hall has not made any money from taking over the hall and is still paying out more than is coming in just to keep the hall open in order to provide a service to the community.

“The car park is open for use when the hall is in use and closed when it is not.”

The XS spokesperson added: “The car park is for the use of patrons of the hall only. It has never been a public car park.”
