Lesmahagow Co-op to close, after 100 years

AFTER more than 100 years Lesmahagow’s Co-operative store is to close for business next month.

The store, located in Abbeygreen, will leave a huge void in the centre of the village.

Its demise is being laid squarely at the feet of locals, with more people shopping in larger supermarkets such as Tesco, which opened just outside the village a couple of years ago.

A Co-operative spokesman confirmed that the store would close its doors for the last time on November 28.

He said: “The closure is due to poor trading performance and is not, in any way, a reflection on the commitment and hard work of the store team.”
