Life of Lesmahagow soldier Private Ian Jardine becomes clear

THE reason why historical research into the life and heroic death of a `Lesmahagow soldier’ had hit a brick wall became clear this week.

It was mainly because Private Ian Jardine of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers, part of whose story we told in our July 21 edition, wasn’t actually from Lesmahagow at all!

The late Private Jardine, who died in action in June 1940 DID, however, have a connection with nearby Dillarburn.
