We want to know what you think of proposals to revitalise land in Westerhill Road, Bishopbriggs, which has lain empty for more than 20 years and is regularly labelled an eyesore by local residents.

Westerhill Developments have unveiled early plans to build a hotel, cinema, offices, healthcare facilities and a goods depot on the ground, which used to house a Shell-Mex petrol distribution centre.

Dominic Notarangelo, chairman of Bishopbriggs Community Council, said: “We welcome what looks like a very good idea to bring development to this area which has lain empty for years.”

And he’s also hopeful that the development could have a knock-on effect on other long-awaited improvements.

He added: “It’s also a good chance to advance funding for the Bishopbriggs Relief Road. We’ve been waiting for 30 years for the road to be completed and this could be our opportunity.

“The development could also kick-start the idea of a community railway hub for Westerhill.”

He continued: “This could be a major employer for the area, both while it’s being built and when it is operational.”

It is expected that Westerhill Developments will now carry out consultation on the plans before lodging an official planning application with East Dunbartonshire Council by the end of 2012.
