Lining up for Abington Show

Organisers are confident that it will be bigger and better than ever, thanks partly to a grant from the Clyde Wind Farm Fund.

That has paid for new gates, allowing them to expand the sheep section, and for new equipment to make the pony classes more fun and to run more smoothly!

“We are very grateful for all their support,” said secretary Carol-Anne Warnock.

For farmers, the sheep are the main event at the show.

“Abington is principally a sheep show, a hill sheep show with large numbers of Blackies,” said Carol-Anne. “It is a big show of Blackies – they come from all over the country.”

As well as the usual farming show staple of the industrial section, craft tent, dog show and bouncy castle, there are a numher of sporting events at Abington.

A seven kilometre road race, up the Roman road, starts at 1pm, and there is a race of half that distance for under-16s.
