Loads of fun for all at Bearsden Festival

There should be good weather this weekend because Kirsteen Macdonald from BBC Weather will be in Bearsden at Bearsden Festival's Celtic Concert.

While her forecasting may not always be perfect, her singing is and she will be compering and singing in New Kilpatrick Parish Church as part of the big Saturday concert.

There will also be lots of local talent to make the sun shine including Boclair Academy Folk Group and Anna Mackenzie from Douglas Academy on Clarsach. Fiona Hunter, Gillian Frame and Ryan Corbett will all be joining in the music-making creating a night that will have great rhythm and haunting melody.

And it’s all free.

Kirsteen Maclean who is organising the concert for the festival said: “We’ve brought together well known names along with younger folk to give an opportunity to get better known. There is great talent in our area and we want to celebrate it all.”

The concert on Saturday, September 3 is only one event in a busy weekend which offers workshops to try out ukulele, Gaelic starter, fiddle and voice classes along with classes for those who have some experience. Again these are free and you can download a form from the festival website bearsdenfestival.org.

There are still a few places available for some of the workshops and you can turn up on the day but it is best to book.

Event founder and organiser Rev Roddy Hamilton from New Kilpatrick Church, Bearsden, said: “Hopefully Kirsteen Macdonald will have some influence on the weather as we have a lot going on in Bearsden Primary playground with an open stage and street games and craft stalls.

“But of course, we’re ready for wet weather as well - we’ll just put up some umbrellas and a few gazebos but we will scary on regardless. It is Scotland after all!”

Walter Proven who is helping to arrange the outdoor venues, said: “There are a few indoor venues too where we have a societies fair and puppets and plays but whatever the weather, we will be celebrating the breadth and variety of our community. You can’t go wrong.”
