Locals pick litter in Cumbernauld Community Park

CUMBERNAULD Community Park is looking all the better following a litter pick by staff of ASDA Cumbernauld and its nearby branch of McDonald’s.

Teams of workers, joined by more than 70 pupils of Cumbernauld Primary School and St Andrew’s Primary School, coverged on the park to clear out as much rubbish as possible.

Friends of Cumbernauld Community Park chairman Barney Kinsler said: “We had some 15 pickers from Asda and Cumbernauld along with 71 kids from the schools, who were swarming all over the park like yellow ants in their high-visibility gear.

“It was a bit damp and muddy but the kids really dived straight in and got stuck into grabbing litter with their with their litter picks with dinosaur heads. They obviously had a lot of fun.

“We collected about 30-40 bags of rubbish so it was a very successful day, and the Friends are very grateful to everyone who helped out.”

The next job at Cumbernauld Community Park is the planting of the £50,000 Diamond Jubilee Wood funded by the Central Scotland Forest Trust. The public are invited to help with the planting on May 12, while local schools will also take part.
