Loch Road in Kirkintilloch to close for good

Loch Road in Kirkintilloch is to be closed to through traffic on a permanent basis, following a year-long trial and consultation.

For many years residents of Loch Road had voiced their concerns about traffic volumes and speeding motorists, claiming it was being used as a ‘rat-run’. The situation improved following the opening of Initiative Road in 2010, however problems still persisted.

In 2014, following further public consultation, East Dunbartonshire Council introduced a temporary road order, effectively meaning Loch Road became a no-through road.

Residents could still drive to their homes but could not drive from one end of Loch Road to another.

Depute Leader of the Council and Convener of Neighbourhood Services, Ashay Ghai said: “We have listened to the residents of Loch Road and I’m glad we have found a solution which they are pleased with. Over the past year of the trial there has been a massive reduction in through traffic in the area which was our intention all along. I hope the traffic order continues to work and help Loch Road residents feel safe in their area.”

The road will continue to be open to cyclists.
