Lorna passes on New Lanark baton

Having spent the last seven of these years as director of the New Lanark Trust, Lorna is retiring, passing on her re-titled post to new chief executive Scott McCauley.

Said Lorna this week: “It has been a huge privilege to have served as New Lanark Trust’s second Director. There have been many highlights over the past 33 years, but the moment when New Lanark was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List was especially memorable.

“I am delighted that we have been able to develop New Lanark as a living, working community, remaining true to its heritage as a centre for enterprise, economic activity and employment, as well as welcoming visitors from all over the world. I’d like to pay tribute to the current generation of “millworkers” – our workforce of over 160 people – for their commitment, support and hard work over the years. New Lanark has been a huge part of my life but, to use a topical Olympic analogy, it’s time to pass on the baton.”

Among those paying tribute to Lorna was Willie Macleod, the chairman of New Lanark Trustees, who said: “The Trust has been extremely fortunate to have been led by two inspirational directors since its inception over 40 years ago.

“Lorna has built on the achievements of her predecessor, Dr Jim Arnold, through her commitment, leadership, insight and determination to continue the restoration of New Lanark.”
