Scaffolding in Tiree Court was sent flying in fierce winds which battered the area at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

And as our dramatic pictures show, the scaffolding landed on a parked Vauxhall Zafira which fortunately had no passengers.

Eyewitness Karen Korked had been taking her Bichon Frise dog Kenzie out for a walk when she saw the scaffold collapse.

Karen (54) who works in Darroch View nursing home’s kitchen said: “I just heard this whoosh and saw what had been done to the car. You just stand there when something like that happens. I couldn’t believe it.’’

However, she did not escape unscathed after a section of piping broke off from what was left of the structure and landed on her foot. Her little dog also suffered a puncture wound to his leg.

Karen said: “My foot is still swollen and bruised. It’s my Christmas night out on Saturday so I am hoping I’m going to be able to get my shoe on!’’
