M74 crash driver dies in hospital

He died in the early hours of this morning.

Enquiries are continuing to establish the cause of the crash at Junction 9, about 2.30am on Saturday, when his black Mazda CX-3 car travelling southbound on the M74 and leaving on the slip road appeared to lose control and crashed into a barrier.

Emergency services attended and the driver was taken to Wishaw General Hospital in a serious condition.

The slip road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators examined the scene.

Road Policing Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them at Motherwell Police Office on 101.
