Major blaze at Stobhill Hospital

Firefighters have tackled a large blaze which broke out at Stobhill Hospital.

The emergency services were called to hospital in Springburn shortly before 7pm on Sunday, May 1,

The blaze, which started at a derelict mortuary in a disused part of the hospital campus, sent a plume of black smoke over the area.

The mortuary building is separate from the new Stobhill Hospital building.

A fire service spokesman said: “At approximately 8.56pm on Sunday, local crews from Springburn and Bishopbriggs Community Fire Stations were dispatched to reports of a derelict building on fire at Stobhill Hospital, Balornock Road, Glasgow.

“On arrival the incident commander quickly assessed the situation and deployed his crews to tackle the fire with water hoses and carry out a search of the building for any persons who may still be within.

“An additional crew was requested from Cowcaddens to assist with this well developed fire.”
