Making a meal of filling up bags

GLASGOW MSP Humza Yousaf is taking part in a Mary’s Meal’s project to encourage people from across Scotland to fill a backpack of essential items needed for a child’s education in Malawi.

The Mary’s Meals project provides a daily meal in a place of education to chronically poor children in countries such as Malawi, Liberia and Haiti.

Humza Yousaf said: “Mary’s Meals is a shining example of how a simple idea can work. I am proud that a local Glasgow charity has such international outreach changing the lives of the most vulnerable and poorest in our world.

“The Backpack Project is vitally important. So often we take education for granted, we forget that that many in the developing world lack the most basic essentials. A proper education can give those children living in severe poverty the empowerment to start to change their life towards a better future.

“It doesn’t take much for you to fill a backpack with some basic items such as towels, pens, notepads, toothpaste or clean clothes — but it can make a real difference to a child’s life. I encourage as many people to get involved. Together we can make the world a better place for our children.”
