Margaret McAllister celebrates 100th birthday

IT'S not every day that you receive a letter of congratulations from the Prime Minister followed a few hours later by a telegram from the Queen!

But that's exactly what happened on Monday to Margaret McAllister at Lanark's McClymont House Nursing Home, as she celebrated her 100th

birthday.

As a lifelong Conservative supporter and former polling agent for the party, the letter from Conservative PM David Cameron was particularly well received.

"I was very pleased to get a letter from the PM," Margaret said.

"I'll make sure that I send a letter of thanks back to him."

Margaret enjoyed two celebrations at McClymont House — a party with nursing home residents followed by another with family and friends.

There were many close relations celebrating with Margaret, who had three children — Isabel, David and Douglas — with her late husband George and now has nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
