Mass choir will thaw out the winter chill

East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust (EDLC Trust) has organised a ‘Day of Singing’ on Saturday, January 24, as part of East Dunbartonshire’s Youth Music Forum.

The event will bring together the finest voices in the area, including those from Kirkintilloch Ladies Choir.

Christopher Bell, the acclaimed RSNO chorus master and artistic director for the National Youth Choir, will lead the celebration in New Kilpatrick Church, in Bearsden.

Scott Hill, chair of EDLC Trust, said: “Calling all choirs, young people and adults who love to sing.

“Come along and join us for a mass choral event with Christopher Bell.

“We want as many people as possible to join us – you don’t have to be a professional, just have a love of singing.

“If you don’t want to sing but would like to listen you can join us for the afternoon.

“There will be plenty opportunity to practise too, as many local choirs are having rehearsals throughout January, which people are welcome to join in.

“Songs in the programme include ‘End of the Day from Les Miserables, Irish Blessing by Bob Chilcott and O Fortuna from Carmina Burana, so there really is something for everyone.”

Choirs will be holding rehearsals over January, so if you would like to get involved it’s not too late - just contact your local choir by telephone or email.

They include Bearsden Choir who rehearse on Wednesdays at 7.30pm (01389 877 513), Kirkintilloch Ladies Choir who meet at 7.15pm each Monday ([email protected]), Kelvin Choir who meet on Tuesdays at 7.30pm (0780 486 4240) and Westerton Male Voice Choir who meet at 7.30pm on Tuesdays ([email protected]).

The Day of Singing will run from 10am-3pm, and is open to the public. Participating school choirs include Bishopbriggs Academy and St Ninian’s High School.

Councillor Alan Moir, convener of development, added: “This promises to be a wonderful day and just what we all need in January. “

He added: “I hope as many people as possible come along and make this a fantastic event.”
