Maxwell pays tribute to Anne Frank aide ahead of Holocaust memorial

GIFFNOCK resident Stewart Maxwell MSP has paid hisrespects to Miep Gies, the lastsurvivor of the group whichhelped hide diarist Anne Frankand her family from the Nazisfor more than two years.

Ms Gies (100) died in The

Netherlands this week.

Mr Maxwell, elected rep for the West of Scotland said: "The

bravery shown by Miep Gies in defying Nazi occupation laws

and hiding Anne Frank for as long as she did is a shining

example of humanitarianism in one of mankind's bleakest times.

"She will be sadly missed."

The politician has also laid a motion before parliament

commending Ms Gies' charitable work long after the

death of Miss Frank who succumbed to TB while captive.
