McLeod backs tighter laws on abuse of disabled badges

Fiona McLeod is supporting fellow MSP Dennis Robertson’s bill which is at its first stage in Holyrood to strengthen the current legislation surrounding the issuing of disabled parking badges.

The Strathkelvin & Bearsden representative, said: “I am very happy to add my support to Dennis’ consultation on the proposed bill on Blue Badge misuse and access. I would also encourage badge users to respond to the consultation and share their experiences with Dennis and shape the Bill.

“Too often I hear of people abusing the system and preventing those who really need the scheme to be able to use it effectively.

“For many users, the Blue Badge contributes greatly towards their enjoying a better quality of life, allowing them to get out and about without the worry of finding a suitable parking space close to their destination or expense of using other forms of transport.”

Proposals greater powers to cancel and confiscate badges in certain circumstances, and to provide an appeals process for applicants when their Blue Badge application is refused on eligibility grounds.
