Mearns girl stars in French crime thriller movie

Gabby Rose plays the part of a criminal’s daughter who is kidnapped, and has already spent weeks filming in France and Benidorm.

Starring alongside actors including Isabelle Adjani, Vincent Cassell and Sam Spruell, former Calderwood Lodge pupil Gabby is a member of Harlequin Eastwood Theatre for Youth, and trains at Showcase theatre school in Giffnock.

But she also owes her film world success to mum Angie, who had been “tagged” about an opportunity for a young actress to play the part in the movie Le Monde ou Rien (The World or Nothing).

She put her daughter’s cv forward, and - to the family’s joy - she won the part.

Tamsin Pollock of Showcase said: “Gabby was among hundreds of schoolgirls from across the UK to audition for the role of Brittany.

“She always had a passion for singing and acting, but nothing could prepare her for filming abroad for three and a half weeks among stars such as Sam Spruell (who plays her criminal dad) and Vincent Cassell”.

Gabby has said she burst into tears when she found she’d landed a key role in a movie, and wasn’t fazed to discover her she was to play the daughter of a drug dealer - “Brittany” herself is entirely innocent.

The trip was an action-packed, first hand experience of the film world, but - despite the nice hotel she stayed in - was no holiday as she worked seven hours a day.

She had her lines memorised before leaving Scotland, as she’d been sent the whole script in advance – and knew when and where she would appear.

Tamsin accompanied her on the trip, and says she was deeply impressed by the impact she made in a drama environment hugely more challenging and different from anything she has experienced at home.

She said: “This ittle girl has something really special - everyone loved working with her.

“The film is due for release next year, so be sure to look out for this Scottish teenager, as it won’t be the last you see of her.”
