Meet Rena, East Ren’s citizen of the year

EAST Renfrewshire’s citizen of the year has been named as Rena McGuire, from Barrhead.

Provost Alastair Carmichael presented Rena — secretary of Barrhead community council and chair of Barrhead Housing Association — with the glass star award and flowers at council chambers.

He said: “I meet people every week who are really making a difference, but Rena is really very special indeed.

“She has been involved in many initiatives including enabling disadvantaged young people to go on holiday, the safety in the park event, Weigh to Go, and she organisers an annual international women’s day event.

“I am delighted to recognise Rena for all she’s done with this well-deserved provost award.”

Accepting the award, Rena — also celebrating her birthday — commented: “I’m so delighted. But I receive this on behalf of the many kind people across East Ren who constantly contribute to our community — it’s not just me!”
