Memorial Hall, Lanark, targeted by vandals

LANARK’S Memorial Hall, currently closed for refurbishment, was broken into in the early hours of Friday morning when “extensive damage” was done by two youths, hiding their identities from CCTV security camaras inside by wearing dustmasks, possibly left by refurbishment workers.

Police are seeking any eyewitnesses or information on the incident, the neds apparently gaining entry to the building by a skylight and, on entering, causing senseless damage by letting off foam extinguishers within the building created as Lanark’s official War Memorial.

A spokeswoman for South Lanarkshire Council, the building’s owners, said: “The area is currently being cleaned. The contractors have passed CCTV footage of the intruders to the police. The fabric of the building has not been damaged therefore there will be no hold up to the project.”
