Milngavie laps up its first beerfest

There was a Bavarian theme for the event, which was particularly handy for the West Brewery (on Glasgow Green), whose owner Petra Wetzel has spent years developing world class Bavarian beer in the heart of Glasgow.

Also present were well-regarded brewers including Strathaven Ales (cask ale), Bute and St Andrews and Fallen.

All told there were 30 beers to choose from - but wine and gin cocktails for those who like a quality drink but have never quite taken to ale.

The event was organised by Milngavie’s Business Improvement District, with plenty of tented cover to hand if the weather had ever threatened to let the side down ... which it didn’t.

Local bands, solo artists and the John McNamara Band all helped to add a suitable jollity to the proceedings - although given the theme a German oompah band might be persuaded to join in next time around.

The food stalls did reflect Germanic tastes, however, with hog roast, burgers and pretzels to enjoy.

Under-18’s were welcome too, and were issued with special wristbands to avoid any confusion over who could be served alcohol - and youngish-looking people aged 18 or a bit over sensibly followed the advice to bring ID.

Adults who bought a ticket and enjoyed the day now have a historic branded glass to cherish - from the first of what could be very many more future beerfests in Milngavie.
