Milngavie Pipe Band taking to George Square on Sunday

Milngavie Pipe Band will take centre stage in George Square on Sunday as part of the celebrations to mark St Andrew’s day

They are part of what has been described as a ‘feast of Scottish entertainment’ and a special Beat the Retreat to George Square, pipe bands will lead people to join the festivities for Scotland’s patron saint.

As part of Scotland’s Winter Festival, they will join Kilbarchan Pipe Band and Uddingston Strathclyde Pipe Band to lead people towards the festivities in George Square, where storytelling, Scottish arts and crafts sessions and live music from Talisk and Martin McLaughlin are among the attractions.

Lord Provost of Glasgow, Councillor Sadie Docherty said: “St Andrews Day celebrations form an important part of the Glasgow Loves Christmas celebrations in the city. We know just how much people love the sights and sounds of the pipe bands marching through the city ahead of the World Pipe Band Championships and we have decided to bring the magic of that occasion to this most Scottish of celebrations. The city is getting ready for Christmas and once again we have something on offer for everyone as they get ready to celebrate from outstanding shops to top class entertainment across Glasgow.”

Glasgow loves St Andrews Day forms part of the Glasgow Loves Christmas campaign and is supported by EventScotland as part of Scotland’s Winter Festivals. It incorporates Glasgow’s unrivalled shopping offer and celebrated Style Mile as well as a programme of festive events all taking place at the city’s famous and much-loved George Square and throughout the city.

1.00pm Pipe bands congregate in Holland Street (Blythswood Square)

1.30pm The pipe bands “Beat the Retreat” procession starts

2.00pm Procession arrives at City Chambers and performs at the Square
