Milngavie Week's back and it's even bigger and better!

'˜Milngavie Week' is back by popular demand with loads of fun events for all ages - and it kicks off with the Highland Games this Saturday, June 11.

Milngavie Week, which originally ran from 1966 until 2006, has been brought back to life by the newly established Milngavie Community Development Trust as one of their priorities in their action plan for Milngavie.

Milngavie Week has always traditionally started with Bearsden and Milngavie Highland Games which is being held at the West of Scotland FC on Glasgow Road.

Doors open at 11am and the event ends at 5pm.

Entry to the games is free, but they would really appreciate a donation which goes to their charity partner ‘Funding Neuro’. Recommended donation £2 per adult and £1 per child.

Baking enthusiasts can enter the new ‘Great Highland Bake Off’ - just take your entries in the following categories - shortbread, tablet/fudge, cloutie dumpling and cakes/biscuit to the Bake Off marquee at the Highland Games.

And there are some great prizes up for grabs in the quiz and raffle at the Rotary stall at the Highland Games (£2 to enter).

Children, accompanied by a parent, will have great fun taking part in a treasure hunt on Sunday, June 12 in the precinct which starts at 1pm.

Meet at the clock, costs £2 each (includes a free Colpis ice cream).

There’s also a children’s drawing competition - drop off entries at the Youth Cafe 12.30pm, every entry gets a goodie bag. Free to enter.

The schools’ debating event on Tuesday, June 14 at Douglas Academy looks set to be hotly contested with teams from P7 and S1 competing in rounds. The final is at 2.30pm.

There’s also a seven a side football tournament with teams from all primary schools at Douglas Academy on Wednesday, June 15.

If you enjoy crafts why not drop into the Fraser Centre from 2pm to 6pm on Thursday, June 16 to try your hand at embroidery, weaving, silk painting and other crafts. Children can have a go from 3.30pm (free).

Or you could enjoy a guided walk of part of the Clyde Coastal Path on Friday, June 17 from 2pm to 4pm. Starts Milngavie Golf Club, free and is a gentle 2.2k walk taking in some lovely history and wildlife along the way.

There’s also a children’s cat show on Friday, June 17 in Milngavie Town Hall from 6pm to 7.30pm. Free entry. The categories are kitten, adult, senior, best in show Prizes and trophies will be awarded at the event.

The week ends with the Classic Car Show on Saturday, June 18 in the precinct with over 80 classic cars, events, street performers and family fun. Free. From 10am to 4pm.
