Minister’s flying visit

YOUNG apprentices at Cumbernauld Airport were the centre of attention last week as they had a VIP visitor.

To help highlight funding to help local authorities tackle youth unemployment, Scottish Government minister Angela Constance visited three teenagers working on Modern Apprenticeships at the airport.

Ms Constance was introduced to Lisa Munro, Alana Hamilton and Christopher McKim. She said: “The Scottish Government is absolutely committed to raising youth employment. We have guaranteed every 16-19-year-old a place in education or training through Opportunities for All, backed up by an additional £30 million investment.

“From this funding, I am very pleased to give £9 million to six local authorities we have identified as priority areas with particular local difficulties with employment opportunities for young people.”

One of the modern apprentices at Cumbernauld Airport, 17-year-old Lisa Munro, said: “I work in the control tower at the airport and I really enjoy working here – it’s a bit different from what most people do for a living!”
