‘Money’ grants for young people

MSP Jamie Hepburn is calling on young people from across the area to get involved in the Money for Life Challenge.

The challenge is a national competition which is open to 16 to 24 year olds, and provides small grants which would enable to young people to improve money management skills in their communities.

The Money for Life Project is specifically open to 16 to 24 year olds in further education, work based learning, adult community learning or a training organisation, and the aim is for the young people to set up a team of up to ten people and apply for one of 250 grants in order to provide a money advice service within their local areas.

The teams can apply for a £500 grant to enter, with the support of an individual project sponsor from their learning provider.

Teams have until Friday, November 22, to enter the competition.

Scottish national finals will take place in April 2014, followed by a UK Grand Final in London on May 15, to select the overall competition winner.

Mr Hepburn said: “The Money for Life Challenge is a great opportunity for young people across Cumbernauld and Kilsyth to take advantage of available funds to create projects that improve their money management skills and the money management skills of those across our communities.
