More fundraising events for Andrew McNaughton

THE friends and family of Carluke teenager Andrew McNaughton have been busy organising a string of events in order to send him to a specialist English college next year.

Andrew, who celebrated his 18th birthday on Monday, was born at just 26-weeks-old and suffers from cerebral palsy.

But the teenager and his family are determined that he will attend the specialist Beaumont College in Lancaster next year.

Unfortunately, there is no such specialist college north of the border.

And the three year course down south will cost £100,000 per year.

Mum Heather said: “Our first fundraiser was the online auction for Andrew, where we had 53 items donated on Facebook; people bid on those items for a week, which raised around £450.

“It’s great that so many people have supported us.”

But the campaign is not just about raising money.

Heather is determined to heap pressure on the Scottish Government to build a specialist college north of the border.

In fact a petition has now been set up in the hope of putting pressure on the Scottish Government to build such a facility.
