More parking problems in Lanark

Is selfishness to blame for many of Lanark’s chronic parking and traffic problems?

That question has been posed as attention centred again on a part of town with a notorious congestion headache, Woodstock Road, where many of the town’s new public buildings are grouped.

The concentration of the Lanark Doctors surgery, Lanark Health Centre, the Harry Smith Complex and Lanark Lifestyles all in that area was certain to increase traffic on the narrow town centre road but matters are being made even worse by the lack of public car parking provided, especially at the two medical buildings.

Simply too many of the parking bays there are reserved for the use of those working there, it was claimed this week.

The general and long-running shortage of car parking was discussed at a meeting of the town’s Community Council.
