Mount Florida parking plans up for discussion

The MoFloCoCo consultation is now available, setting out proposals from land and environmental services including new pay and display bays and extended no waiting/loading areas.

The results will be fed back to GCC before any plans go through formal consultation — and the community council hopes that residents will have their say now.

Chris Carus, MoFloCoCo chair, told The Extra: “We’re excited to be carrying out this public consultation, giving local people a chance to influence important aspects of local life.

“We have established a constructive working relationship with land and environmental services through the Langside Area Partnership. Everyone agrees that improvements can be made on the current situation with respect to pedestrian safety, access to shops and residential parking.

“We’ve thrown out some ideas and everyone who comments on them will be making a difference to the final outcome.”

Parking remains a contentious issue in the area, particularly during events at Hampden.

On MoFloCoCo’s Facebook page, some argue against the proposals, with one resident commenting: “Surely all the pay and display spaces are going to force even more vehicles onto the other street where residents are already struggling to park?”

However, another wrote: “This is good. Need more parking for residents — Prospecthill Road is a bloody nightmare.”

Councillor Archie Graham, chair of the Langside Area Partnership, responded: “This is a fantastic initiative between representatives of the community in Mount Florida and GCC.

“I was in Langside Library on Tuesday to view the exhibition of proposed changes to traffic management in the area.

“I’m very impressed by the quality of the proposals and other initiatives such as the development of community gardens, which are being promoted to groups in Mount Florida and Battlefield.”
