Disruption to services between Glasgow Central and Lanark, Dalmuir and Motherwell, Dalmuir and Larkhall, Dalmuir and Cumbernauld, Cumbernauld and Motherwell, and Motherwell and Milngavie started at approximately 6am.

Replacement buses had to be called in to ferry passengers between Motherwell and Newton via Hamilton, Motherwell and Lanark, Larkhall and Hamilton Central, Whifflet and Cumbernauld, and Motherwell and Cumbernauld.

To reach other destinations such as Bellshill, passengers were told their tickets could be used on First Glasgow bus services.

Initially it was believed a junction box had flooded causing a power failure, but further investigation found an errant rodent was
the reason.

North Lanarkshire Council allowed Network Rail an emergency closure of the Logans Road level crossing yesterday morning.

At first it was feared the closure could last up to three weeks, but by the afternoon repairs were carried out sufficiently that Network Rail said they could carry on the rest of the work using traffic management and the level crossing was
reopened.

Despite repairs being carried out, disruption to services was due to last long into the night before the network returned to normal.

Anyone who was delayed by 30 minutes or more due to the signalling fault at Motherwell can claim Delay Repay by visiting www.scotrail.co.uk/about-Scotrail/our-delay-repay-guarantee.

In addition, for the next two Sundays (March 6 and 13) late night services from Motherwell to Balloch (via Yoker) will be diverted via Singer due to tunnel repair works taking place between Yoker and
Dalmuir.

The 10.53pm Motherwell to Garscadden service will terminate at Hyndland with onward travel by bus.
