Mrs Fellows had her heart checked by a cardiac specialist with a stethoscope, one of the simplest ways to check for heart valve disease, as Heart Valve Voice raises awareness of the need for improved diagnosis and treatment.

She said: “It was fascinating to learn more about heart valve disease, it affects a high proportion of the population, yet it’s worrying there are such low levels of awareness and concern across the country.
