MP hopes to meet Biggar care home owner to discuss options

Clydesdale MP David Mundell wants to meet Bield, the company which last week announced plans to close its care homes, including Langvout Court in Biggar.

Mr Mundell, who has been contacted by many concerned constituents is looking to meet with bosses at Bield Housing to work towards solving the situation for residents there.

With a lack of care homes across the region, Mr Mundell wants to discuss with Bield what the options are for continuing the existing care home in Biggar and seeking confirmation that current residents will be cared for in suitable facilities in the coming months and years.

“This is a hugely worrying time for the residents and staff as well as for those relatives of those staying there,” he said.

“The news came as a real shock and I heard of many concerns over the last few days and at my surgery at the Gillespie Centre on Friday about what is going to happen in the future.

“I am keen to meet with bosses at Bield as soon as possible to relay those concerns and discuss with them how this crisis can be solved, ahead of their planned closure next summer.

“We need to understand the options, and whether they include Langvout Court continuing under different or community ownership.

“I hope to meet Bield soon in the interests of residents, relatives and staff.”
