MP Michael McCann elected Chair of Westminster Parliamentary Labour Group

LOCAL MP Michael McCann has been elected as the Chair of the Scottish Parliamentary Labour Party Group at Westminster.

Michael, the East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow MP, will serve in the role for the next parliamentary term which will cover the Independence Referendum in September and the General Election in May next year.

Michael said: “It is a great honour to be elected by my peers as their representative for the coming year.

“We have an extremely full agenda with the Scottish Independence Referendum and a General Election beckoning.

“It will be my role to represent the views of Scottish Labour politicians in the Westminster Parliament and I look forward to repaying the faith they have placed in me by delivering a successful No vote in the referendum and returning Scottish Labour Members of Parliament in the 2015 General Election.”
