MP welcomes a longer school
day for P1 pupils

Local MP Jo Swinson has welcomed news that children starting primary school in East Dunbartonshire in August will now stay for a full day from the first Monday in September.

The council ran a consultation last year asking parents if they wanted to see a change to the current arrangements for P1 pupils, with only 22 per cent saying they wanted no change.

Ms Swinson said: “Local parents have previously told me of their concerns about the current arrangements where P1 pupils do not attend for a full day for many weeks, and with over 1,000 responses to this consultation it’s clear that change is widely desired.

“This step will help parents with childcare and work arrangements and will allow children to get more out of their school experience.

“I am pleased that Liberal Democrat Councillor Eric Gotts has helped deliver these well supported changes.”
